The Castlegar Fire Department raised over $2,800 and a trailer full of toys for local families in need during the holidays.

The department’s annual toy drive took place Dec. 12 and all the donations were distributed to the Community Harvest Food Bank to be added to Christmas Hampers.

“The Castlegar Fire Department and Firefighters Association would like to thank, Shirley Henderson and the staff at A&W Castlegar for hosting the event outdoors, especially in this years COVID pandemic,” said CFD chief Sam Lattanzio.

“Jo-Ann Jones Bursey for the use of the Century 21 Mountainview Realty trailer and a huge $1000 donation to go towards purchasing toys and gift cards, the staff at Heritage Insurance and Credit Union for the $920 donation, Shawn Biln at Pharmasave Castlegar for assistance in purchasing toys, the Castlegar Firefighters Association for the $500 donation and the Castlegar Firefighters Auxiliary for taking the time to go toy and gift card shopping.”
