Castlegar will be joining communities across the province on Dec. 1 by hosting a World Juniors Skate Day.

The events are being organized to kick off the official countdown to the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Junior Championships, which are being hosted in Vancouver and Victoria starting on Boxing Day.

“It’s a province-wide skating party,” explained event organizer Sue Heaton-Sherstibitoff.

The event is being hosted by the Selkirk College Saints who will be on hand to offer skating tips and sign autographs.

The free skate will be at the Pioneer Arena on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Supercats Studio will be providing a live DJ, and there will be refreshments and door prizes provided by other sponsors.

“It’s just a really good event to start off December,” said Heaton-Sherstibitoff. “It’s just a good old-fashioned community skate.”

Organizers are looking for more sponsors, and would like to hear from anyone who thinks they have something that would enhance the event. Contact Heaton-Sherstibitoff at 250-608-2655 for more information.
