Castlegar & District Community Services Society is offering help with current and prior year income tax returns during March and April.

To be eligible for the free service, you must either be a single person who makes less than $35,000 annually, or a couple/family with less than $45,000. For each child, a parent can receive an additional $2,500 in their annual income. Investment income must be less than $1,000.

The volunteer tax preparers are not allowed to do returns for deceased persons, self-employed or rental incomes, bankruptcies or complicated capital gains.

If you’re eligible, bring in your T-slips and other tax information to 1007 2nd Street during working hours Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (closed noon to 1 p.m.). You will be asked to complete and sign an information form and lace all of your documents in an envelope to be picked up by our volunteer crew.

Qualified volunteer tax preparers will pick up your info, e-file the tax returns to Canada Revenue and mail your copy back to you. The whole process could take up to a week. If you do not have your T-slips, the volunteers are able to download them from the Canada Revenue website, but you must have signed your agreement in the third signature place on the information sheet.

Please call the Community Services office ahead of time to ensure it is open at 250-365-2104 and press 0 to speak to the front desk.
