With the hard work of several Rotarians from both Castlegar clubs, the Rotary Outdoor Fitness Park (Green Gym) at Twin Rivers/Millennium Park is starting to come together. The gym offers a location for residents to exercise in a beautiful outdoor setting right near the water.

“the final steps are 6X6 inch pressure treated lumber that will be placed around the site,” said Rotarian Fred Hughes. “We’re going to put on 3/4 inch road crush on and compact that down so it’s level. Then we’re going to bring down the pieces of equipment and bolt them in.”

Hughes expects the gym will be completed by the end of September at which time there will be a grand opening celebration.

The gym will feature a cardio and a strength training area and will be open to all members of the public as long as the park is open.

The gym is made possible through the help of sponsors: Columbia Basin Trust, Heritage Credit Union, RDCK, Chances Gaming Centre, Zelstoff Celgar, Teck Metals, Kootenay Savings Credit Union, Interfor, and Tire Stewardship BC.

In addition, Trowelex Rentals, Mitchell’s Supplies, and the City of Castlegar have contributed materials and/or services free of charge.
