Harvest match program uniting Castlegar tree owners with gleaners

Program pairs those with too much fruit with others who can use it

Harvest Match Castlegar will once again be trying to match up locals with extra produce with others who can use it.

The program is primarily designed for tree owners with an abundance of fruit or nuts to advertise to other local residents who are interested in gleaning the trees for their personal use.

WildsafeBC Castlegar coordinator Tara Pejski says the goal is to put the harvest to good use while reducing attractants that commonly invite wildlife such as bears, raccoons, skunks, deer and rats into area yards and neighbourhoods.

Castlegar area residents are welcome to join the Harvest Match Castlegar Facebook page to either share what they have to offer, or what they are hoping to collect.

If you do not have a Facebook account and would still like to participate, contact castlegar@wildsafebc.com or 250-608-5404 and Pejeski will advertise on your behalf.

Alternatively, free “pick me” signs are also available at City Hall to place in your yard to noitfy others that your tree is available for gleaning.
