Have a Heart radio-thon a huge success

More than $400,000 raised for child/infant-related medical equipment

Thanks to the generosity and commitment of thousands of our listeners, the ninth annual “Have A Heart” Radiothon has raised over $461,500 and still counting for the various hospital foundations in the BC Interior.

This exceptional total was raised during a 1-day campaign  April 26 on the Sun FM network of stations, AM 1150, CJDC, The Bear and EZ Rock network of stations in the Okanagan, Kootenays, Salmon Arm, BC Peace and BC North regions. One hundred percent of the money raised will stay in our communities to purchase life saving equipment for our Paediatrics’ wards and to upgrade neo-natal intensive care units.

“Our “Have a Heart” Radiothon shows the power of community from both our listeners and employees alike. The value of local radio to our cities is priceless during events like this”, says Mark Burley Group Brand Director BC Interior.

Don Shafer, General Manager of the BC Interior Stations for Astral Radio adds, “We are overwhelmed and very proud of our communities’ outpouring of generosity and support for our “Have a Heart” Radiothon to benefit our local hospitals.  We can’t wait to do it again next year!  Astral Radio cares and together with our communities, we are making a difference.”

During the “Have a Heart” Radiothon, on-air hosts encouraged our audience to contribute through various avenues such as on-line auctions, $12 a month making them a member of the “Have a Heart” Club and of course phone in pledges.  Listeners were prompted to make a difference after hearing moving stories told by staff, families and hospital staff whose lives have been touched by experiences at their local hospital.
