Kalesnikoff employees leaned in again this year to safely share the spirit of the season with 20 local Nelson and 20 local Castlegar families including 84 children. Over 2020 and throughout the pandemic, employees donated over $10,000 through payroll deductions, which were matched by the company for a total of $20,000.

Employee volunteers shopped at local businesses in Nelson and Castlegar to make sure each child received gifts from their individual Santa wish lists.

These gifts, along with grocery gift cards and food hampers for each family, will be provided to the Salvation Army in Nelson and Castlegar and District Community Services Society, to be delivered to families who have need a little support for the season.

“Christmas can be a challenging time of year for individuals and families, as this is when need is most deeply felt. This year, 2020, has left people battered and worn, so programs like Hope for the Holidays is providing that much needed light and joy to those who are hurting, not knowing where to turn,” said Val Sherriff, program co-ordinator at the Salvation Army in Nelson.

Kristein Johnson, executive director of Castlegar and District Community Services Society, said her organization has seen an increase in anxiety with families as Christmas nears.

“The Kalesnikoff team has come through to alleviate this stress again this year. We would like to extend our most sincere thanks on behalf of our agency, and the families we serve,” said Johnson.
