The City of Castlegar is partnering with the Castlegar News, FortisBC, and Mercer Celgar to bring a Merry and Bright holiday decoration contest to our community this season.

Merry and Bright judges will tour Castlegar after dark on Sunday, Dec. 12, and select first and second place winners for the best and most creative holiday decorations.

The city is encouraging people to get decorations and lights up soon so they can be enjoyed by everyone out and about in the community throughout December.

“We cannot wait for people to get into the holiday spirit and light up all areas of our community,” says Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff, chair of the community wellness and social services council committee. “It has been another tough year and, with the recent devastation throughout our province, we could all use something to brighten our spirits.”

The winners will be announced in the Dec. 23 edition of the Castlegar News. They will receive gift certificates to restaurants, activities, and shops in Castlegar. Only Castlegar residents are eligible to win the prizes but we hope our friends in the surrounding rural areas will also be lighting it up.
