M&M's manager Dave Grantham and Castlegar mayor Lawrence Chernoff were both busy on Saturday in front of the store serving up tasty hamburgers, chicken burgers, and veggie burgers as part of the franchise's Charity Day BBQ.
All proceeds from the event go to the Crohn's and Colitis Society of Canada. Crohn's and Colitis is a disease which affects both men. Grantham was diagnosed last year, while Chernoff has a family member with the disease.
"It affects me personally," said Chernoff. "I've been involved with Crohns and Colitis for a long time. It's really key to me. It's a disease that needs to be supported. I can tell you, it's not an easy thing to deal with. It's no different than cancer or any other disease out there. There is no cure for Crohns and Colitis at this time. It's important for the community to support it and also for people to understand what the disease is all about."
The barbecue raised more than $1,870 for the Crohn's and Colitis Society.
