Nominations open for Castlegar Citizen of the Year

Nominate a deserving Castlegar-area resident

The nomination deadline for Castlegar’s Citizen of the Year is fast approaching on May 12.

The Knights of Columbus are once again organizing the annual recognition.

Nominees should be an individual or group who has made outstanding contributions to the area in cultural activities, recreation, religious activities, educational activities, work with the elderly, work with the disabled or promoting the Castlegar and district community.

Nominees must have been a resident of the Castlegar area since Jan. 1, 2023.

Nomination forms and details are available at City Hall and the Castlegar Community Complex.

Nomination forms must be dropped off at City Hall by the nomination deadline.

Last year's Citizens of the Year were Mike and Brenda Balahura. The couple was recognized for their community-centred careers and wide range of volunteer work through the 43 years they have lived in Castlegar.

Other Citizens of the Year have included educator Kay Jones, seniors advocate Sandi McCreight and community choir director Christina Allen.
