The Castlegar Filipino community threw a Christmas party at the Castlegar Community Complex

The Castlegar Filipino community threw a Christmas party to remember at the Castlegar Community Complex on Dec. 21.

The event was open to everyone and nearly 300 people attended the event that included food, gifts, dancing and lots of fun.

A number of local businesses provided gift certificates, vouchers, posters, gift baskets, and more to help add extra special touches to the event.

"This year’s Christmas party was especially significant – it was the biggest Filipino party we’ve ever hosted to date," said Annie Gustafson, one of the organizers. "What made it even more special was our decision to open the event to the entire community. We actively shared invitations through several Facebook groups, encouraging people to come and experience Christmas the way Filipinos celebrate it."

For Filipinos, Christmas is the biggest celebration of the year, often starting as early as Dec. 1 and stretching into late January.

"We’re thrilled we were able to share this joyous tradition with so many community members," added Gustafson.

The real heroes of the event were the volunteers, under the leadership of Lani Green, who gave their time and energy to make the event happen.
