The Castlegar highway overpass will be lit up in purple for part of April to mark Oral Health Month.

During the month of April, the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association (CDHA) champions a Put Your Purple On oral health campaign. Why Purple? Purple is the colour for dental professionals and signifies compassion, purpose and inspiration.

April 4-10 is National Dental Hygienists Week and more than 75 community landmarks all across Canada will be dazzling purple lights raising awareness of the dental hygiene profession and their integral role as partners supporting good oral health practices for all.

The theme “oral health for total health” resonates throughout the week reminding everyone that taking good care of your mouth, teeth and gums positively impacts your life.

Castlegar (Kinnaird Interchange Overpass April 4-10) and Trail (Victoria Street Bridge April 4) are participating in this national awareness event.

The CDHA has recently launched an advocacy campaign to elected officials, focusing on senior’s oral health and their access to care, especially when they reside in long-term care facilities. Dental professionals and their associations continue to advocate for the need of universal oral health care programs for all ages. CDHA encourages everyone to take a bite out of tooth decay and gum disease, get ready to sink your teeth into April and celebrate this month by seeing your dental professional and initiating and maintaining good oral health and eating practices.
