Every fall for the last three years the kids in the Rotary Youth group have taken on an outdoor hands-on project.

This year the group chose to work with The Association of West Kootenay Rock Climbers (TAWKROC) on a project at the Kinnaird Bluffs. TAWKROC recently finalized the purchase of the Kinnaird Bluffs property. There’s a project underway to improve the trails to the climbing areas so that they can more easily be accessed.

On Saturday, Oct. 14, the members of the local Rotary Youth Interact Group worked with members of TAWKROC to improve access to the east wall. A bonus for their efforts: the climbers treated some of the youth to a guided outdoor climbing experience on the Bluffs’ Whirlwind Wall.

A big thank you goes out to the other partners on this project. Castlegar Parks and Trails Society (CPTS) for lending tools to support the work and special thanks to Summit Mountain Guides of Nelson for providing a free, safe and fun guided climbing experience for our club members.
