Turning Pointe Dance Studio’s Showteam and Rising Star have completed another successful season of competitions.

From Vancouver, Washington to the East Kootenays and Okanagan, the dancers have showcased talent, drive, dedication and teamwork. The artistic directors and staff of Turning Pointe are proud of all of the dancers’ performances, and wish to mention these notable achievements from each competition:

Tremaine Convention & Competition

- February 17-18, Vancouver, Washington

Won numerous top 3 placements and four dancers made it through the rigorous audition process: Alysha Menzies and Petra Ihns (Intermediate); Mackenzie Grantham and Isabella Mitchell (Senior)

Danceworks - April 6-8, Kimberley, BC

Junior Highscore Solo- Ingrid Ihns, Acro

Junior Highscore Duo- Emily Ridge & Samantha Bell, Jazz

Intermediate Highscore Solo- Petra Ihns, Acro

Senior Highscore Solo- Mackenzie Grantham, Acro

Small & Large Group Highscore Trophies- Pirates (Junior), True Colours (Junior), Dangerous (Intermediate), Oh What a World (Senior), Change (Senior)

Top 10 Emerging Artists Intensive (recipients win a scholarship to a summer intensive dance camp in Vancouver, BC) - Ingrid Ihns (#9), Isabella Mitchell (#3)

Mentor Award- Shawna Sloan (Artistic Director)

Great Canadian Dance Challenge

- May 16-20, Kelowna, B.C.

Won numerous awards and top placements for group and solo routines and 6 awards for excellence in choreography. Senior Showteam Ballet number, Primavera, made it into the Crystal Challenge Dance Off. Out of 778 routines, only the top 13 scores of the entire competition were asked to perform.

Isabella Mitchell and Petra Ihns received dance workshop scholarships.

As the end of the dance year approaches, the competitive and recreational dancers at Turning Pointe are preparing themselves for the studio’s year-end recital, “Artists in Motion”. TPD’s talented dancers will perform a variety of dance styles that are sure to entertain the whole family! A 3 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. evening performance take place on Saturday, June 23rd at the Charles Bailey Theatre in Trail.
