The Castlegar Aquanauts wrapped up their season at the Kootenay Regional Championships Aug. 5 – 6 in Nelson.
All year the swimmers have been training hard to be at their best for the end-of-year competition.
Castlegar Aquanauts head coach Corbin Anderson is happy with how the swimmers did, “All of our swimmers have been training hard all season to be at their peak for the end of the season, with all the swimmers having great races.”
The Kootenay Regional Championships are the qualifiers for the BC Summer Swim Association Provincial Championships, taking place Aug. 16 – 20 in Nanaimo, and the Castlegar Aquanauts will be represented at the top competition. The Aquanauts will have six swimmers who will be making the trip to the Vancouver Island.
Anderson says while these swimmers will be representing the Kootenay region he is proud of how all the Aquanauts did this season.
“To watch these young swimmers grow and go from disqualifying to swimming clean races and repeatedly getting new best times is very rewarding for me and the entire coaching staff.”
Swimmers that will be representing the Kootenay region in Nanaimo are Sophia Cardoso, Carys Rodgers, Grady Rodgers, Anais Brazeau, Sebastian Johnson.
While the Castlegar Aquanauts are wrapping up their summer season, which is their competition season, they are also getting ready for their fall and winter season.
Club president Jenn Waldie says, “While we take a minute to catch our breath from the busy competition season we are already looking forward to our popular maintenance sessions. These are great opportunities for our younger swimmers to learn more about summer swimming and be introduced to the sport.”
The Castlegar Aquanauts will be at the Parade of Programs, Sept. 13 at the Castlegar Complex. Registration also opens to the public Sept. 13. For more information on the Castlegar Aquanauts you can go to their website: castlegaraquanauts.teampages.com.
