The Brilliant Cultural Centre and the local Ukrainian community will be presenting a concert fundraiser featuring the music of Ukrainian-born singer Natasha Y on Dec. 3.

Nastasia Y was born in Kyiv, but is now based out of Toronto. She tells people about Ukraine through her music.

"This is especially important during the war in Ukraine and the need for continued humanitarian support," says organizer Olga Hallbord. "At times of such unrest, when people and their culture are at risk, music can assist with healing, and communal healing is the main goal of this event."

Nastasia Y blends ancient Slavic folk with jazz and funk, inspired by her Kyiv roots and her late father’s protest songs. A standout at the Toronto Jazz Festival, and a 2025 Canadian Folk Music Awards nominee for her latest album, Kyiv Soul, Nastasia channels ancestral voices to turn trauma into soulful resistance, opening hearts to global struggles.

This is Nastasia’s second visit to Kootenays. Her workshop and concert in July at Taghum Hall were a great success and received positive feedback in the community.

Alex Atamanenko and his band will be special guests of the event and perform one of the Ukrainian songs. In addition, representatives of local choirs and other individuals will form a choir to perform along side Nastasia for one song.

Proceeds from the event will support the Ukrainian-Canadian nonprofit Maple Hope Foundation's medical supplies project.

Tickets can be purchased with cash at the door for $20 or $15 for students, kids 12 and under are free and family rates are available. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m.
