NELSON — The West Kootenay Branch of Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. held an induction ceremony where three new engineers were presented with their certificates and entry into the profession.
The ceremony was part of the Annual General Meeting of the branch held in Nelson on Sept. 27. Council member Larry Spence P.Eng. handed out the certificates and Branch Chair Stefan Humphries P. Geo. welcomed the inductees to the branch.
Engineers and Geoscientists BC is the regulatory body for these professions in the province. Their role is to safeguard the public with respect to this work. They do this by setting standards to ensure engineering and geoscience are practised safely, ethically, and by individuals equipped with the right training and experience to do so.
Receiving their professional designation is a major milestone in the career of an engineer. This means they are now fully equipped with the training, experience, and expertise to conduct specialized professional work. Celebrating this milestone is important to us as well because we want to ensure the continuity of these important professions into the future
The West Kootenay Branch organizes events for children to engage them in learning about science and engineering and to hopefully inspire the next generation of engineers and geoscientists.
One of our most popular challenges in the spring is the Popsicle stick bridge building contest where participants build bridges from standard kits at home, bring them to the event and have them loaded to destruction to see how strong they are.
