West Kootenay Women in Business held a luncheon on Sept. 8 at the Fireside Inn in Castlegar. The topic of the event was marketing and social media and the speaker was Jenna Semenoff from The Seed Web Design Studio.

The Big Red Dog was popular as the Castlegar Community Complex's Pool held the Back to School Swim Party on Saturday.

The Castlegar Rebels hockey team were busy Saturday at The Brick in Castlegar with a barbecue and test drive fundraiser. In conjunction with A.M. Ford, the team received $20 for every person that showed up and took a car for a test drive.

The winner of the West Kootenay Toy Run raffle for 2011 was Nelson's Darcy Cherry, who won a 2011 Harley Davidson Fat Boy Lo with flames painted on it.

McDonalds Restaurants in both Castlegar and Trail held their grand openings on Sept. 8. The stores celebrated with appearances by Ronald McDonald and great specials all weekend.

Bird rescue doing long duty in Castlegar

Selkirk College President and CEO Angus Graeme, along with several dignitaries and representatives from Aboriginal groups kicked off the final leg of fundraising for the Aboriginal Gathering Place at Selkirk College in Castlegar.

Dr. Art Hister, of Global TV News Health Spot and author of several well books and coveted guest speaker, was at Shopper's Drug Mart on Friday to sign books and chat with fans.
