The Playmor Junction Big Band is raising money for local school music programs with its Educational Concert Series.

The band, which has already played at Salmo Secondary, will also perform at L.V. Rogers on Wednesday and Mount Sentinel on Dec. 4. Both concerts begin at 7 p.m. and are open to the public. Entrance is a donation, with all proceeds going to the high school’s music programs.

The Playmor Junction Big Band is a community-based big band that has been running in Nelson for over 35 years. The current band is comprised of 20 members from across Canada who now call Nelson home.

The band is under the musical direction of Michael Perkins, who, like a number of the members, is a recent addition to the Nelson music scene. They perform under the big band jazz genre from swing to funk to post-modern experimental. They perform locally and around the province having played recently for the Mayors’ Gala Ball in Merritt.
