Castlegar residents who have been missing going to the movies since the COVID-19 pandemic closed theatres have a chance to see a show next week.

Fresh Air Cinema is bringing two outdoor drive-in movies to town — Aladdin (2019) will air on Tuesday, June 30 and Captain Marvel will air on July 1 at the Millennium Park parking lot.

Before the main feature plays, attendees will get to view a new video created by the City of Castlegar featuring videos and photos of local residents sharing what they love about Canada.

The event is sponsored by FortisBC and Kootenay Savings Credit Union. Admission is by donation to the Community Harvest Food Bank, but tickets are required in advance and limited to 50 cars per show. And people are asked to only reserve tickets for one show, so more community members can attend.

Organizers are suggesting a minimum $30 donation per car, but donations are not required.

In order to ensure social distancing protocols are followed no bikes or walk-ins will be allowed, people must not mingle with others and guests must remain in their vehicles to watch the movie. Ticket holders should make sure they check out all the rules before attending.

Tickets are available through Eventbrite.
