The Kootenay Gallery of Art is introducing a new fundraising event this year that promises to be an elegant evening of chance and entertainment.

The Great Dinner Lottery for the Cultured Soul will be taking place Friday, Oct. 13.

The unique fundraiser will see guests arriving at the door unsure of how much they will be paying for their ticket. The event is open to 102 participants, each will be given a sealed envelope upon arrival that will contain an amount from $1 to $102 — guests will then open their envelopes at a specified time and find out how much they are paying for their meal.

The event will feature a three-course meal catered by The Nineteenth, who is sponsoring the event by providing the space and a glass of wine for each guest.

“The reputation of the food at The Nineteenth is way up there — you can be guaranteed a good meal and a fun evening,” said the gallery’s executive director Val Field.

Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the meal will be served at 8 p.m. The evening will also feature music and games of chance.

“We are trying to encourage people to dress up and make it a special night,” added Field. This includes a suggestion that guests show up wearing red, black and/or white.

Reservations must be made by Sept. 29 and require a credit card. They can be made by calling the gallery at 250-365-3337.

Heritage Credit Union and the Castlegar Golf Club are also major sponsors of the event.
