Nelson artists among those honoured at Kootenay Music Awards

Dylann Heidi, Yan Zombie, Rafferty Funksmith, Thus Far and Brian Rosen brought home awards.

Selkirk College music student Dylann Heidi (pictured on screen behind) was named Best New Artist. Her mother Kendall McPherson acceptance the award on behalf of the 18-year-old who was too young to attend the award show at Spiritbar.

A handful of Nelson artists were awarded Kootenay Music Awards at Spiritbar Friday night.

Dylann Heidi was named Best New Artist; Yan Zombie received Best Producer; Rafferty Funksmith went home with Best DJ; Thus Far was named Best Rock/Punk/Metal; and Brian Rosen was recognized in the Album of the Year category for their 2012 release Choose Your Choice.

Local music promoter Paul Hinrichs, formerly of The Royal, was also recognized with a special award for all all the big name bands he's brought through the city in the past year.
