The Rio Samaya Band from Vancouver, made up of family members Sally, Francisco and daughter Ja Pace, performed at the free Concerts in the Park series at Kinnaird Park on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

Stepping out from under the bandshell was a necessity said Sally, as they like to connect and feel close to their audiences. Their unique Latin, Reggae and Rhumba sound had people of all ages on their feet dancing.

"There were lots of people, which was great," said Sally. "It's so nice to play here."

The multi-cultural make-up of the band meant that some songs were simultaneously translated from Spanish to English as the evening unfolded.

A number of music lovers came up to meet and thank the band at the end of the show.

The band was heading for Kaslo, Crawford Bay and Fernie next before leaving for the Baja to record a new album.
