The Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) Health Foundation announced this week the launch of its $2 million Mental Health Matters campaign, which the foundation describes as its most ambitious fundraising initiative to date.
This progressive effort aims to revitalize mental health services across the Kootenay Boundary by funding critical upgrades to the Daly Pavilion, Harbour House, and the Pediatric Outdoor Space at KBRH.
“Mental health affects every aspect of our community,” said Lisa Pasin, executive director of the KBRH Health Foundation.
“By supporting this campaign, we are investing in facilities and care environments that will reduce stigma and provide compassionate, patient-centred care for people of all ages.”
Every year, individuals and families across the Kootenay Boundary rely on KBRH’s mental health services.
The Mental Health Matters campaign aims to address growing demands by creating safer, trauma-informed spaces that promote healing with dignity and respect while ensuring the safety and well-being of healthcare teams and patients.
“This campaign represents hope and resilience for our community,” added Pasin.
“Together, we can ensure that everyone has access to the care they need, close to home.”
Key improvements funded by the campaign include:
• Renovating the Daly Pavilion, KBRH’s acute care psychiatric unit, to enhance patient and staff safety, improve patient comfort, and modernize the facility with specialized equipment and furniture for better mental health care.
• Enhancing Harbour House, a residential rehabilitation facility, by adding new furniture, security systems, and therapeutic resources to support recovery and reintegration.
• Developing a Pediatric Outdoor Space to create a safe and secure, child-friendly area with recreational equipment and a designated family visiting zone.
The Mental Health Matters campaign is a community-wide effort, with donations of all sizes contributing to a brighter future for those facing mental health challenges.
“Every gift, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families across the region,” the foundation shared.
