A 65-year-old Cranbrook man was riding his motorcycle westbound on Highway 3 when he attempted to pass a commercial transport truck, according to a June 14 news report released by the Trail RCMP.
A witness reported that the motorcyclist struck a part of the commercial transport truck while passing.
The man and his motorcycle fell underneath the truck as a result of the contact.
Police report that the man was killed instantly.
The truck driver was shaken up, but did not report physical injuries.
Police say the Cranbrook man was travelling with his brother and another companion at the time of the collision.
"Another tragedy on our Kootenay roadways is a stark reminding a motor vehicle incident can happen at anytime to anyone," said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich, Trail RCMP detachment commander.
Take your time getting to your destination and drive defensively when travelling this summer, he added.
"We all share the road and need to look out for each other to prevent future incidents like this."
Trail RCMP, with support from BC Highway Patrol, conducted an investigation at the scene and the highway remained closed for several hours.
The BC Coroner Service was notified about the incident and attended the scene.
No charges are expected to be laid.
