Nine West Kootenay festivals are receiving financial assistance from the Columbia Basin Trust.

The Trust announced Monday it would provide funding from its Basin Festival Grants program to assist arts presenters and community organizers.

"Summer festivals are something we all look forward to each year. What better way is there to celebrate our amazing communities than being part of an outdoor music or arts fest," said Christine Nichol, manager, delivery of benefits, in a statement.

"Along with showcasing our rich and diverse arts and culture scene, these events are critical contributors to our local economies. By supporting the work of presenters, artists, non-profits and volunteers, we help strengthen the resilience and vibrancy of our communities."

Recipients in Nelson include the Nelson International Mural Festival ($15,000), ArtWalk ($9,900), Elephant Mountain Literary Festival ($8,000), and the STOODIS Indigenous Film and Arts Festival ($15,000).

Crawford Bay's Starbelly Jam Festival ($15,000), Kaslo Jazz Festival Etc. ($15,000), Slocan's Sunset Series ($4,236), Trail's Music in the Park ($15,000) and Ymir's Tiny Lights Festival ($15,000) also each received funding.
