A new federal government is expected to be named April 28, as Canada’s 2025 snap election gets underway.
The main parties vying for the 343 seats in the House of Commons are Mark Carney’s Liberals, Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, Jagmeet Singh’s New Democrats, Elizabeth May and Jonathan Pednault’s Greens, Yves-François Blanchet’s Bloc Quebecois and Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada.
Early voting closed on April 22.
Election Day polls will be open on April 28 in British Columbia from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. PST.
To find your local poll location look at the voter registration card you received in the mail or visit the Elections Canada website and type in your street address. Voters can only visit their specified polling location.
Accepted forms of identification include drivers licenses and government-issued photo identification cards. If you do not have either, two pieces of alternative identification may be accepted – see elections.ca for more details.
Castlegar and the surrounding area (including Rossland) is part of the Simlkameen-South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding which stretches all the way to Penticton and Princeton.
Five candidates are running in the Simlkameen-South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding:
Barry Dewar (PPC), Helena Konanz (Conservative), Phillip Mansfield (Green), Gloria Morgan (Liberal) and Linda Sankey (NDP). Candidate profiles can be found at castlegarnews.com.
Trail, Salmo and Nelson are part of the Columbia-Kootenay-Southern Rockies riding. The candidates in that riding are: Reggie Goldsbury (Liberal Party of Canada), Kallee Lins (NDP), Steven Maffioli (Green Party of Canada), Rob Morrison (Conservative Party of Canada) and Jim Wiedrick (Independent), and Laurie Baird (People’s Party of Canada).
