Motorists driving down Columbia Avenue may have noticed a change in traffic patterns recently after the timing of the traffic light near No Frills was adjusted.
When travelling south, the left-turn arrow at Columbia Avenue and 15th Street had been turning on whether there was a vehicle trying to turn or not.
Downtown commercial property owner Daniel Bosse says he came to the city with his concerns about the intersection one year ago. But it wasn't until he expressed his frustrations at a city council meeting in October that things started to happen.
At the Nov. 18 council meeting, city staff reported that they had finally looked into the matter. An electrical contractor was asked to investigate and discovered the light was not functioning according to its original design. Original plans for the intersection called for the left turn signal to only activate when a vehicle was in the turning lane.
Fixing the problem was simply a matter of changing the light's programming with the help of the manufacturer's technical support team.
City staff say they are now investigating the functionality of several other traffic lights.
