The Park Place development will have 54 rental units.

With construction at the Park Place housing development reaching final stages, Nexus Development Group will be making display suites available for viewing over the next month.

The project at 2405 Columbia Ave. was first announced in early 2022 with construction beginning later that year. It is expected to be complete by early 2025.

The configuration and types of units have altered slightly over the course of the project, but the final design includes 11 two-floor live/work townhouse units, 14 one-bedroom units with dens and 29 two-bedroom units with dens for a total of 54 housing units plus eight commercial units.

All of the units are going to be available to rent, which is a departure from earlier plans that called for the sale of some units.

Part of the new development covers the spot of the former Brandson Pool. The adjacent Brandson Park is now being redeveloped by the City of Castlegar.  A first round of community consultation has taken place and priorities identified. The next phase is for the project's consultants to develop a variety of potential concepts for the park and determine the costs for each idea. Once that is complete, further community consultation will take place.

Park Place's green space and courtyard area will be connected to the new park and accessible to the public.

Nexus owner Daryl Martini, who grew up in Trail, says he wants to create a vibrancy and energy around the building that will see people coming and going from the businesses, people coming to and from the park and the people that live there all intersecting at this new crossroads.

"There's no fences because I want to make it open to everyone," Martini told Castlegar News in a September interview. "It's good for the building, it's good for the community ... This is what I think communities need – a place to connect and get together."

Martini says his company's mantra "people and how they experience spaces" is evidenced in the uniqueness of the building's units which include features like higher ceilings, fireplaces, views and a variety of floor plans.

"I hope people will see the quality of the work that has gone into this," said Martini.

Unit viewing will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 27. Appointments are recommended. For more information contact info@theparkplace.net or call 778-228-2696.
