Fire destroyed three sheds in downtown Castlegar on Friday.

The Castlegar Fire Department responded to a structure fire call on the evening of Nov. 15. When they arrived at the scene in the 300 block of 4th Avenue, they found the fire had already spread to an adjacent fence and the shed of a neighbouring property. The fire was being fought by people with garden hoses, but CFD took over upon arrival, according to Fire Chief Sam Lattanzio.

In all, three sheds, a fence and a covered area were impacted by the fire. Lattanzio estimates the loss at $30,000.

CFD responded with 11 members, two engines, and one command vehicle. Lattanzio says no one was injured and both properties appear to have insurance.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is not considered suspicious or criminal in nature.
