Collision near Trail shut down Highway 22 for several hours on June 8.

Police confirmed Tuesday that a fatal collision occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday (June 8) at Hanna Drive, four kilometres north of Trail.

The Trail RCMP reported that a 53-year-old Grand Forks man was riding his motorcycle southbound on Highway 22 when he allegedly veered into the oncoming lane and struck the front of a commercial transport truck.

The truck driver attempted to veer out of the way but was not successful.

Police say the motorcyclist was killed on impact.

The truck driver was shaken up over the incident but reported to be physically uninjured.

With support from BC Highway patrol, the Trail RCMP conducted an investigation at the scene and the highway remained closed for several hours.

According to Tuesday's news release, the motorcyclist was unlicensed and prohibited from driving within the Province of B.C.

The incident occurred in an active construction zone, but police report that this was not suspected to be a factor in the cause of the collision.

The BC Coroner Service and WorksafeBC have been notified about the incident.
