With the Federal election underway, candidates are fanning out to talk to voters about what matters to them. Linda Sankey, NDP candidate for the Similkameen-South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding spent day three on the campaign trail with coffee talks in Grand Forks and Greenwood on March 25, meeting with the public and city officials to address concerns and answer questions. Accompanying her was outgoing MP Richard Cannings, who said he is going to help with her campaign. Sankey said people have been friendly and inquisitive so far, with one highlight being talks with Selkirk College staff and students on funding challenges, as well as limits put on international students. Lingering over everything is of course the threat of American tariffs and the impact they are having on business. Sankey also related she was the first candidate in the whole country to submit her paperwork to elections Canada, adding she was so early staff asked her to wait.
