Castlegar RCMP are investigating a series of break and enters and thefts in south Castlegar over the weekend.
At least 10 reports have been filed with local police, primarily in the the Emerald Park and Cone Hill areas.
Police say the incidents began just before midnight on Saturday, Feb. 17 and continued through the early morning of Sunday, Feb. 18.
According to police, the suspect(s) entered unlocked doors and smashed vehicle windows to steal property. In break and enters at two residences the suspect(s) stole vehicle keys and other property.
The suspects stole a dark blue 2016 Dodge Ram crew cab pickup truck from a residence in the 3900 block of 9th Avenue. It has a canopy and a bush bar with LED lights.
While investigating the thefts, police recovered a dark grey 2021 Ford Ranger pickup truck with stolen Alberta licence plates. The truck was discovered in the same area of the Castlegar thefts. That truck had been reported as stolen from Abbotsford the previous week.
According to a social media post from the Twin Rivers Community Choir’s director Christina Allen, some of the stolen items belong to the choir. These include a large black gig backpack bag with bright fuzzy orange interior containing a Blue Yeti standing microphone, Shure microphone, Sony wireless headphones, webcam, various patch cables and extension cords. She also reports that two laptops, a cell phone and an electric scooter were taken.
Local police have seized footage that identifies a person they believe is responsible. The suspect appears to be a male with a medium build wearing all dark clothing with his hood up and a covering over his face (attached images were recorded in infrared, so clothing appears light coloured).
Castlegar RCMP are continuing to investigate the thefts and are asking the public to review home or dash camera security footage. If anyone has information, they are asked to call the Castlegar RCMP at 250-365-7721.
