This past weekend saw the Castlegar Rebels play two home games against the Columbia Valley Rockies and the Golden Rockets.
On Friday, Columbia Valley rolled into town on the back of a four game win streak to start the season. After a goalless first period, the second period saw the Rebels take a commanding 4-1 lead thanks to goals from Kwentyn Oss, Tanner Hickey, Ben Filippone, and Carter Peters.
The Rockies would respond however, and they would start the third period by scoring two goals to cut the Rebels lead to 4-3. Strong defensive play and solid goaltending from Haden Heide allowed the team to steady the ship before Oss and Peters would score back to back, doubling their goal totals on the night and extinguishing all hopes of the Rockies comeback. The final score was 6-3 in favour of the Rebels as they handed Columbia Valley their first loss in the new season.
On Saturday, the Rebels met the Golden Rockets and played them to a 2-2 draw during regulation play. After a back-and-forth overtime period the game would end in a shootout win for the Rockets. Goals for the Rebels in this game would come from Jace Kramer and Reid Gerrand.
This weekend the Rebels take to the East Kootenays to visit Golden and Columbia Valley for a couple of rematches. The next Rebels home game is Saturday Oct. 19 when the Sicamous Eagles come to town. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
