Golfing at the Castlegar Golf and RV Park has had amazing growth since the pandemic with membership growing each year says the club's director of junior golf Daryl Horvath.
One of the major areas of growth is the number of youth taking up the game of golf. The club now has a record-breaking 80 plus junior/junior and junior club members.
Horvath says some of the growth has been spurred by the golf camp put on by Selkirk College and the many golf pros at local golf courses.
Horvath is also the donor representative for the Laurie Palibroda Memorial Bursary. This bursary helps pay for six applicants to take part in the Selkirk Summer Golf Camp.
This year the Castlegar Golf and RV Park offered up a club championship for the junior division and junior/junior division. Competitors played throughout the months of July and August, vying for the top four in the junior division and the top two in the junior/junior division.
In the Junior/Junior division Niko Vassilakakis and Harrison Vanlerberg played off in a nine hole stroke match with Vassilakakis taking home the trophy and a $100 gift card and Vanlerberg taking home a $50 gift card.
In the junior division Emma Cleare, Hudson Vanlerberg, Tyson Quiding and Carter Vanlerberg. Winning the first place trophy and taking home a $100 gift card was Hudson Vanlerberg and in second place, edging out a very talented Cleare, was the brother, Carter Vanlerberg. He took home a $50 gift card.
"We would like to thank all the junior and junior/junior members who competed for the Club Championship and the Pali Senior Men’s sponsored Trophy," said Horvath.
