Castlegar Mayor Lawrence Chernoff has decided that he will once again be running for mayor in the upcoming municipal election.

Chernoff has been a staple in Castlegar politics for 30 years, and has been mayor since 2005.

Chernoff says he based his decision on discussions with his family, support from the community and the fact that he still enjoys the job.

“I have had a fair amount of consultation with the community and they asked if I would run again,” said Chernoff.

“From my perspective, I still have passion for the community and I am looking to continue to build the future of the community. It is still exciting for me, and its still fulfilling. I’ll give it another shot and we’ll go from there.”

Two city councillors, Deb McIntosh and Dan Rye have both announced that they are considering a run for mayor, but haven’t made a final decision yet.
