Candidates for mayor and council talked about environmental issues.

About 100 people showed up at the Castlegar Community Complex in Castlegar Wednesday night to listen to candidates for mayor and council talk about environmental issues.

One mayoral candidate — Deb McIntosh — and eight of the 11 council candidates — Janna Sylvest, Florio Vassilakakis, Dan Rye, Bergen Price, Maria McFaddin, Tyler Maddocks, Nicole Hergert and Sue Heaton-Sherstibitoff — showed up.

Among the topics discussed were housing, transportation, and how the municipal government could and should adapt to a changing climate. The meeting was hosted by the West Kootenay EcoSociety along with partner groups Citizens’ Climate Lobby, Kootenay Family Place, and St. David’s Anglican Church.
