November was a very wet month indeed, in fact, it was the wettest November Castlegar has seen since 1984 with 175 per cent of the normal amount of total precipitation.
"The most significant storm cycle occurred between the 17th and 21st with 83.5 millimetres of precipitation falling, mainly rain, but also in the form of wet snow on 19th," said Ron Lakeman, weather forecaster at the Southeast Fire Centre. "The 29th and 30th were also excessively wet with a set of Pacific frontal systems producing another 39 millimetres of rain."
The month was also much milder than normal due to a southwesterly flow.
"The mean monthly temperature was 1.8 degrees warmer than normal, the mildest November since 2001," said Lakeman. "Record daily maximum temperatures of 16.8 and 14.3 degrees were set of the 5th and 7th respectively."
The monthly snowfall was less than normal and the vast majority of the snow that did occur melted on contact, said Lakeman. "The only snow of any significance was the 5.6 centimetres which fell during the night of the 11th.
"The total amount of precipitation so far during 2012 is well above normal," said Lakeman. "A near normal amount of precipitation during December will make 2012 the wettest calendar year on record."
