An accident on Columbia Avenue snarled traffic for more than an hour on Thursday night.

Police say they were called to an accident at the on-ramp to Highway 3 at Columbia at about 6:45 p.m. by BC Ambulance.

Corporal Brett Turner says the accident occurred when a vehicle turning left onto the Highway 3 on-ramp struck a vehicle heading north on Columbia.

Both drivers were taken to hospital suffering from minor injuries and were later released.

The driver of the vehicle that was turning left was issued a ticket for failing to yield, and will face a $167 fine.

Traffic was backed up for some time, as the accident blocked the only access onto Highway 3 from south Castlegar.
