High number of bears in town means we should be more careful and observant than ever.

Constable Ron George of Castlegar RCMP has provided some details of a situation which police and a conservation officer became involved in when a call was received at 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5.

According to the constable, a bear was located in a back yard in the 700 block between 9th and 10th Avenue in the Stanley Humphries area. Officers attending the scene decided putting the bear down was the best course of action.

The bear was shot dead and removed from the scene.
