The Castlegar RCMP, Castlegar Fire Department and BC Ambulance responded to a one-vehicle accident on Wednesday afternoon.

A north-bound white Hyundai SUV had gone into the ditch and hit a tree on the 2900 block of Columbia Avenue.

“There was no real explanation for it,” said Cpl. Jason Olney of the RCMP. “The road surface was actually decent. It was clear and dry.”

“I’m not sure if it was just inattention or… that’s the only explanation that we have,” he added.

The single occupant of the vehicle had minor injuries and the investigation has already been concluded, according to Olney.

The corporal said that reminding drivers to pay attention while they’re behind the wheel is always an issue and he emphasized that people should absolutely never text and drive — though that wasn’t a factor in this accident.

“Also keep an eye and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front of them,” said Olney.
