8-unit building planned for 2225 Columbia Avenue

Castlegar city council has approved a series of development variances in relation to a new eight-unit multi-family apartment project at 2225 Columbia Avenue.

The allowances alter the setback from the centre line of Columbia Avenue from 21 metres to 19.5 metres, the setback from the north interior side lot line from 6 metres to 4.5 metres and the aisle width along the south face of the building from 7.8 metres to 7.6 metres.

The applicant, IUS Holding Ltd. of Trail, B.C., had also requested a change to where garbage and recycling containers could be placed, but withdrew that request prior to the matter coming before council.

The development is within the Transition Official Community Plan land use area, which supports multi-family and mixed-use development to encourage proximity to amenities and services and active transportation.

No one on council voiced any opposition to the project.

The next step for the project will be a development permit application.
