UPDATE: The Castlegar Fire Department was able to contain a fire to just one portion of a home in the 500 block of 7th Avenue Thursday evening.
The home’s occupants were not at home at the time the fire started, but discovered the fire when they arrived home later.
All occupants and pets are safe.
Three fire trucks and 15 firefighters were deployed to the scene.
A portion of 7th Ave. was closed for several hours while fire crews fought the fire and continued to watch hot spots to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.
