The City of Castlegar has received a $2.35 million Transport Canada grant to expand the taxiway and apron at the West Kootenay Regional Airport.
“This will be an amazing development for the Q400 operations,” said airport manager Maciej Habrych. “It is a game changer for our commercial operations.”
Habrych says the improvements will enlarge the existing footprint of the apron to safely accommodate multiple De Havilland Q400 commercial operations on the apron while building new capacity behind, allowing for the free flow of aircraft to pass behind.
“In our current configuration, this is something we are lacking with the larger Q400 now operating here full time on our small apron,” said Habrych. “It becomes an operational issue when we have overlapping flights at our airport at the same time.”
Work is expected to begin this summer and will be completely paid for through the grant.
