Castlegar assault sends landlord to hospital

Castlegar resident faces various charges as a result of early morning altercation

On February 21 2012, just after midnight, Castlegar RCMP were called to an assault complaint.

A 45-year-old man had been beaten numerous times with a hammer and suffered injuries about his head and hands/arms after he attended a Castlegar residence in an effort, Police believe, to collect rent payment. His injuries were serious but non life-threatening. He was treated and released from hospital.

A 34-year-old Castlegar man is facing charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon in connection with this incident.

The male has been released on numerous conditions pending his first court appearance on March 14. This appears to be a targeted attack, and the two men knew each other.
