Castlegar candidates forum to be held Oct. 5

Chamber of Commerce hosting forum

The Castlegar Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an All Candidates Forum on Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Sandman Hotel for mayor and council candidates. Doors will open to the public at 6:15 p.m.

The forum will be moderated by Suzanne Lehbauer.

Candidates will have three minutes to expand upon their political platform. The format of the presentation is at the discretion of the candidates. The timer will give a 20-second warning and ring a bell at the end of the allotted time. No candidate will be allowed more than their allotted time and the chairperson will ask the candidate to be seated.

There will also be a question period where questions will be received from the floor in written form only. The media will have one question each. Written questions from the floor will alternate between the media panel and the public.

Questions from the floor will be collected in a box placed at the back of the room on question sheets provided. No questions will be read without the inclusion of a full name. The questions will be randomly selected from the box.

The candidate, who the question is directed too, will be limited to two minutes to respond to the question.

Additional candidates can respond using one of their rebuttal cards upon completion of the first candidate’s response. Rebuttal responses will be limited to one minute. All candidates will be limited to three rebuttal cards.

The moderator and floor question facilitators will rule out of order any question deemed inappropriate, offensive or derogatory or that would seem to attack the integrity of any candidate.

Any person who unreasonably attempts to attack the integrity of any candidate, are deemed inappropriate, offensive and/or derogatory will be given one warning by security and/or moderator. If there is a second incident, the person will be asked to leave the forum. It is the discretion of security and the moderator to ask a person to leave without a warning if deemed necessary.

Candidates will each have one minute after the end of question period for a final rebuttal or to summarize their platform.

The election takes place on Oct. 15.
