Castlegar City Hall will be closed daily from noon to 1 p.m as the city tries to be proactive in the face of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

The city announced the temporary measure on Jan. 5. City Hall will remain open from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday except for statutory holiday closures.

On Jan. 4, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry told organizations to anticipate that up to one-third of their work force may be unable to work at any given time due to illness or isolation requirements.

The city says the lunch hour closure is for the purpose of staggering the number of staff working together in person at various locations. The daily one-hour closure of City Hall will be in place to allow staff working from City Hall to break for lunch.

“Our priorities continue to be maintaining essential city services and keeping our community and our staff and their families healthy and safe,” says Chris Barlow, Castlegar’s chief administrative officer. “A big part of this is staggering in-person work environments to ensure residents continue to receive the services they expect from the city without major disruptions.”
