Castlegar city council passed three resolutions at their March 21 meeting to show support for the people of Ukraine.

The city will be donating $1000 to the Red Cross in support of the humanitairian crisis in Ukraine. The funds will come from the council resolutions grant budget.

They also voted in favour of flying a Ukrainian flag at City Hall and lighting the highway overpass in blue and yellow through the end of June.

Mayor Kirk Duff added that he thinks both the city and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities should be prepared to offer support for those who may be fleeing Ukraine and looking to relocate to Canada.

“If Ukrainians come here, they will be welcomed with opened arms,” said Duff.
