The week of April 25 to May 1 was a good one for Castlegar as far as COVID-19 cases are concerned, with no new cases diagnosed in the city.

The week wasn’t so kind to Nelson however, which reached the 100 case milestone for new COVID-19 cases in 2021 after 15 new cases were diagnosed there. That number is about double the 53 cases the city saw for all of 2020.

Grand Forks had no new cases last week and Trail and Creston each had one new case.

For the period of April 30 to May 6, the Kootenay Boundary region saw 22 new cases.

The cumulative case total for the pandemic from Jan 2020 to the end of April 2021 for Castlegar sits at 40, while Nelson is at 157 and Trail is at 68.

As of May 7, 6400 people in the Castlegar health area have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. That means close to 50 per cent of Castlegar adults have been vaccinated.

In the Kootenay Boundary region 34,144 people have received at least one dose of vaccine.
