The Castlegar Explorers App will take you places.

Destination Castlegar, the Castlegar and District Economic Development office and the Castlegar and District Chamber of Commerce have launched a new app for Castlegar.

The Castlegar Explorers App is described as a “way-finding tool and gamified way to reward people for shopping locally.”

The free app features an explore button that takes users to a map of the Castlegar area with pins indicating the location of the area’s unique points of interest. The pins give more information about the location.

Each location has a point value that visitors can collect when physically visiting that location. Accumulated points can then be used for goods, services or discounts at local businesses.

Points of interest include the Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Centre, Doukhobor Discovery Centre, Selkirk College, West Kootenay Regional Airport, Zuckerberg Island, Kinnaird Park’s Music in the Park, Brilliant Suspension Bridge, Verigin Memorial Park, City Hall, CPR Station Museum, Sculpture Walk, Kinsmen Water Park, Millennium Park and Ponds, Waldie Island Trail, Lions Head Climbing Wall, Pass Creek Park and Syringa Park. Reward locations include Unwind Yarns, Mallards Source for Sports, Canada’s Best Value Inn Castlegar, Sandman Hotel Castlegar, Gravi Tea Coffee and Toys, Cartwrights Pub, Columbia Functional Fitness, Crumbs Bakery, Castlegar Golf Club, Rest Assured Kootenay Floats, Mountain High Lighting, Mother Natures, Endless Adventures and Central City Shoes.
